Henner intimate

Henner intimate. The man behind the artiste.
Exhibition-file

The general public today knows Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905) for his career and his works, now identified and disseminated thanks to the museographic work carried out at the Henner museum, the temporary exhibitions and the publications which have developed over the past twenty years. But behind the artist also hides a man, an individual of the 19th century with his story, his personality and his habits.

Through several objects that belonged to him, as well as photographs and manuscripts, this exhibition invites the visitor to immerse himself in the intimacy of Henner, to discover his daily life and to better understand the character traits of this endearing character. All the documents presented, from Henner’s workshop, were transmitted by his nephew and heir, Jules Henner, and his niece by marriage, Marie Henner, née Dujardin, donator of the museum to the French State.

This exhibition-dossier, designed in 2022, is the first to have a permanent purpose. For conservation reasons, the items on display may vary depending on the different editions, with the exception of framed photographs – reproductions produced by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – and small objects.
